We proudly partnered with OakTree College

On June 7, 2025, Mät Foundation proudly partnered with OakTree College to deliver an empowering community information session in Footscray, focused on alternative educational pathways and support services for young people and families from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

Hosted at a local community centre in the heart of Footscray, the session was designed to inform families and students about flexible learning options such as the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC), VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM), and other supportive alternatives to mainstream education.

The event addressed critical topics, including:

• Understanding alternative education streams and how they support diverse learning styles.
• Accessing mental health and wellbeing services for students and families
• Building culturally safe school environments that reflect the needs of multicultural communities.
• Connecting youth to mentorship, advocacy, and educational supports

Facilitated by Mät Foundation’s culturally responsive practitioners and educators from OakTree College, the session brought together a diverse group of parents, students, and youth workers committed to improving educational access and outcomes for marginalised young people.

The session also allowed for important dialogue about the role of identity, language, and lived experience in shaping young people’s engagement with education.

Mät Foundation remains committed to working alongside schools like OakTree College to ensure young people from all backgrounds feel seen, supported, and equipped to succeed—both in school and beyond.
